Common questions
Why did Crusty move my folds?
When you log a step earlier or later than planned, or a new event appears in a calendar you’ve connected, Crusty replans the rest of the bake so nothing hands-on lands while you’re busy or asleep. The long waits, especially the night in the fridge, stretch or shrink to absorb the change.
It says my time is “too soon.” Why?
Some breads need more time than you have before the time you picked, once sleep and busy time are taken out. Crusty then offers the soonest time that fits. Try Start now, a different recipe, or a warmer kitchen and dough temperature, which speed fermentation up.
My dough is rising faster or slower than planned.
Tap the step when it’s actually done and Crusty replans from there. Log your dough temperature too; warmer dough ferments faster. Over several bakes the Log tab shows how your kitchen compares with the plan.
How does the starter learn?
Log a feed, then tap “It peaked” when your starter is domed and bubbly. Crusty compares the real peak with its prediction and adjusts future predictions after a few feeds.
I’m not getting reminders.
Check Settings › Notifications › Crusty on your iPhone and make sure notifications, and Time Sensitive notifications, are allowed. Reminders are scheduled once a bake has started.
How do I use °F or cups?
In Crusty, open Settings (the gear on Today) and choose °C or °F under Units. Turn on “Show cups and spoons” to see rough volumes next to the grams. A scale is still the most reliable way to bake bread.
How do I stop Crusty using my calendar?
In Crusty’s Settings, turn off the calendars you don’t want it to read. To remove access entirely, go to iPhone Settings › Privacy & Security › Calendars › Crusty. You can delete the Crusty calendar from the Calendar app at any time.
How do I use Crusty on Apple Watch?
The Watch app installs with Crusty on iPhone (check the Watch app on your iPhone › Available Apps if it doesn’t). It shows the next step for each bake and your starter; scroll with the Digital Crown to switch. Tap Folded or Done and your iPhone logs it and replans. Add a Crusty complication to your watch face to see the next step at a glance. Your iPhone does the planning, so plan a bake there first.
How do I get my bakes on a new phone or my iPad?
Turn on Settings › Your devices › Sync with iCloud on both, signed in to the same Apple Account. Or use Back up to a file and Restore from a backup.
Where is my data?
On your devices, and in your own iCloud if sync is on. See the privacy policy.
